Ever since it first arrived in 2017, the Audi Q2 compact SUV has turned heads. Attractive proportions, youthful styling, on-road agility and useful versatility has ensured the Q2 quickly established itself as a favourite in the Australian market – joining its Audi Q family siblings.
In 2021, the Q2 returns to Australia in refreshed form, headlined by contemporary design enhancements, an advanced new 1.5-litre TFSI engine and attractive new features that further improve customer value.
The Australian Q2 buyer is among the most design-focussed of any Audi customer, and contemporary styling changes are among the most significant in the new Audi Q2. Audi designers have applied the motif of the polygon, which already characterised the front and shoulder line, to the rear as well: the bumper has an integrated angular diffuser insert with large pentagons on both sides. The front has also been enhanced and the below the headlights now have a more distinctive shape. The large implied air inlets, which are also pentagonal, also appear even more expressive, especially with the S line exterior package as fitted standard to all 40 TFSI quattro S line models. The octagonal Singleframe grille is slightly lower than before, making the front section appear wider.
To further enhance the aesthetics of the Q2, dynamic 18-inch alloy wheels are now standard across the range.
However it is the 35 TFSI model that benefits from the most significant engine upgrade, with an all-new 1.5-litre TFSI turbo petrol sitting beneath the bonnet. With outputs of 110kW and 250Nm between 1500-3000rpm, the 1.5 TFSI’s Cylinder-on-Demand (CoD) function can shut down two of its four cylinders imperceptibly at low throttle load and engine speeds, resuming full power seamlessly as required. Performance is brisk, reaching 100km/h from rest in 8.6 seconds, while the engine’s efficiency technologies deliver low fuel consumption of just 5.2L/100km.
The 40 TFSI quattro S line model continues with the energetic 2.0 TFSI engine that produces 140kW/320Nm, which is enough to power the Q2 to 100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds, with fuel consumption of 7.0L/100km.
Both engines are mated to a sporty, slick-shifting seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission.
The Q2 has been awarded a five-star Euro NCAP and ANCAP safety rating, and comes equipped with valuable driver assistance features. The Audi pre-sense city (AEB) with pedestrian detection, side assist, cruise control, parking system plus with sensors and rear camera, as well as tyre pressure indicators and six airbags are standard on both models.
For convenience, both Q2 models now include heated exterior mirrors and convenience key, as well as MMI navigation plus with MMI touch (including its 8.3-inch colour display).
The 35 TFSI continues to offer LED headlights, contrasting bumpers and C-pillar, leather-appointed seats and steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, digital driver information display as well as Audi smartphone interface and phone box light wireless charging among its equipment highlights.
In addition, the 40 TFSI quattro S line adds a new Audi Sport 18-inch alloy wheel, Audi drive select, the electric tailgate sport front seats, auto-dimming interior mirror and aluminium interior accents.
A style package and premium package is available for both models.
The Q2 range is available in up to 11 exterior colours and two interior colour combinations, depending on the model.
The Audi Q2 range is expected to arrive in Australian showrooms from May.
