The New 2020 Ford Everest Sport 4WD
The Ford Everest Sport 4WD will join the line-up in late 2019, bringing an athletic, uniquely styled yet highly-capable new model to the Everest line-up.
The Everest Sport expands Ford’s SUV offering in Australia and New Zealand with EcoSport, Escape, and Endura alongside Everest to offer more choice to customers.
“Everest Sport is a new kind of Everest, bringing a unique style inside and out,” said Kay Hart, President and CEO of Ford Australia and New Zealand. “Everest Sport builds on the increased choice of the line-up, and combines a premium, sporty package with renowned off-road capability.”
The Everest Sport will be positioned between the popular Trend and the flagship Everest Titanium models in the MY2020 line-up, with seven seats as standard and a choice of the proven 3.2-litre commonrail turbo-diesel, or the new-generation, highly advanced Bi-Turbo, 10-speed powertrain shared with the Ford Performance Ranger Raptor. Everest Sport will be exclusively 4WD, with the Everest’s Terrain Management System (TMS) which enables changing between 4WD modes while on the move via the console-mounted rotary controller.
In addition to a five-year, unlimited kilometre full factory warrantyi , Everest Sport is eligible for the Ford Service Benefits program at participating Ford dealerships. With long 15,000km/12-month service intervals, A and B logbook services for the first four years/60,000km are set at a maximum of $299 per serviceii.
Further adding to the ownership experience, Ford Service Benefits also bring Everest owners Auto Club Membership including Roadside Assistance as well as a Service Loan Car and sat-nav mapping updates where availableii .
Everest Sport: Looks that thrill
The Everest Sport is designed to set itself apart as an athletic SUV that is not only highly capable off-road, but has the style to match. Visually distinguishing features include a mesh front grille design finished in black, with ‘Everest’ lettering spread above the grille.
New Bi-LED headlights are part of the upgraded High Performance Lighting system, which provides 17 per cent greater lighting penetration, and a 20 per cent greater penetration in high-beam mode, which the Sport’s standard automatic high-beam feature can deliver without driver input. Distinguished by a rectangular lamp design, the High Performance Lighting system will also be standard on Everest Trend and Titanium from December 2019.
Everest Sport’s exterior upgrades also see the lower bumper sections, both front and rear, finished in black, while further up its rugged SUV body sees black exterior mirrors, black window surrounds and black roof rails. Black 20-inch alloy wheels bolster the look with an athletic stance, while completing the exterior detailing is unique ‘Sport’ badging, as well as a new hero colour – Deep Crystal Blue.
Deep Crystal Blue is one of five exterior colours offered on Everest Sport, specifically selected to show off its black detailing and bold, 20-inch alloy wheels. These colours include:
- Deep Crystal Blue (new for 2020)iii
- Arctic White
- Shadow Black
- Meteor Grey
- Aluminium
Cabin accoutrements start with Raceway Blue door pulls and door treatments, with standard leather-accented first and second-row seating, ‘Sport’ embossed logo on the front row seating and unique Capital Blue stitching. Everest Sport also offers a soft-touch dash pad, also with Capital Blue stitching, for an even greater premium sport blend.
New for Everest Sport, and shared across the MY2020 line-up, a windscreen mounted USB-port is standard and is designed to host dash-cameras – including the Garmin Dash Cam GA55 option available through Ford dealerships – many of which require USB power for operation. This is in addition to the standard console USB port, and two 12V power outlets.
SYNC 3iv with built-in sat-nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone capabilityvis standard on every Everest Sport. The 8.0-inch touchscreen display also doubles as a full-colour reversing camera and hosts the in-built sat-nav, which includes a valuable ‘breadcrumbs’ feature. This enables an off-road route to be mapped, by dropping markers on the map – ‘breadcrumbs’ – to ensure you can find your way back to mapped roads.
SYNC 3’s maps are updated free of charge as part of Ford’s Owner Benefits programvi, ensuring the Everest Sport is equipped with the most up-to-date SYNC 3 maps available.
The two powertrain options for Everest Sport bring strength, efficiency and capability. This includes the proven 143kW/470Nm 3.2L five-cylinder turbodiesel and six-speed automatic that has helped Everest win motoring accolades since its release, including 4×4 Australia’s 4×4 of the Year in 2015, Drive.com.au 2015 Car of the Year, and Carsales’ Best Off-road 4×4 (2017).
The Bi-Turbo, 10-speed automatic is a new-generation powertrain, which has proven popular with customers looking for even greater refinement, comfort and enhanced fuel efficiency. In addition, with 157kW/500Nm, the Bi-Turbo option also increases Everest’s braked towing capacity from an already impressive 3,000kg to a highly capable 3,100kgvii.
The Everest Sport also has a water-wading figure of 800mmviii, with 227mm ground clearance, 29.5-degree approach and 25.0-degree departure angles. Fuel economy figures for the Everest Sport are 8.5L/100kmix (3.2L model) and 7.0L/100kmx(Bi-Turbo model) respectively.
