The New Hyundai IONIQ

The 2019 Hyundai IONIQ has arrived as Hyundai’s first-ever green vehicle on sale in Australia, with a choice of three eco-friendly electrified powertrains wrapped in a striking fastback body.

The flagship 2019 IONIQ Electric boasts a real-world, pure-electric range of 230km1 and the capability for charging its high-voltage lithium-ion polymer battery to 80 per cent capacity in approximately 23 minutes.

The 2019 IONIQ Plug-in makes electric-only commuting a reality, with its ability for EV trips of up to 63 kilometres2 and the option for easy overnight charging of the high-voltage battery.

The range-opening 2019 IONIQ Hybrid presents an accessible and user-friendly taste of electric motoring, with a petrol/electric hybrid system that helps it achieve exceptional fuel economy.

Every 2019 Hyundai IONIQ is available in Elite and Premium trim levels, and each boasts safety, convenience and driver appeal familiar from Hyundai’s conventional-engine line-up.

In a story of standard advanced active safety, Hyundai’s SmartSense™ suite features in every 2019 IONIQ.

From the Elite Hybrid version, IONIQ occupants are protected by Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with pedestrian detection, Blind-Spot Collision Warning and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning systems, as well as Driver Attention Warning, and Lane Keeping Assist systems.

A Smart Cruise Control system completes the SmartSense™ suite in every version – in IONIQ Electric this is complemented by a Stop & Go function.

The spacious and high-quality IONIQ cabin features eco-friendly materials and is designed to appeal to customers familiar with conventional vehicles.

Push-button drive selection and a no-tunnel floor made possible by the single-speed reduction gear transmission contribute to a unique drive in IONIQ Electric while bringing even greater cabin space.

Like every Hyundai passenger car, new IONIQ benefits from thousands of kilometres of local tuning to deliver enjoyable steering and handling with superb comfort on Australia’s uniquely challenging city and country roads.

“The new Hyundai IONIQ marks the opening of an exciting new chapter for our company,” said Hyundai Motor Company Australia Chief Executive Officer, JW Lee.

“2019 IONIQ makes responsive and eco-friendly electrified driving accessible to a wide range of customers, in an attractive and user-friendly compact package featuring comprehensive standard safety and locally tuned comfort and chassis dynamics, with the peace of mind of our five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty and Lifetime Service Plan.”

In a first for both Hyundai and the market, the choice of three electrified powertrains in the new 2019 IONIQ brings a version to suit every green vehicle customer.

2019 IONIQ Model Range Overview

The IONIQ Electric delivers a surprisingly responsive pure EV experience, with an 88kW, 295Nm synchronous motor and high-voltage 28kWh lithium-ion polymer battery.

With a 44.5kW, 170Nm synchronous motor and a range-extending, performance-enhancing Atkinson cycle petrol engine/dual-clutch automatic combination, IONIQ Plug-in delivers a smooth and responsive drive experience and 1.1L/100km fuel economy.

The 2019 IONIQ Hybrid offers an accessible entry to electrified driving, with a petrol/electric powertrain that teams a 1.56kWh battery and 32kW, 170Nm synchronous motor with an Atkinson cycle petrol engine and dual-clutch automatic to provide a conventional driving experience and exceptional 3.4L/100km fuel economy (Elite Hybrid; ADR 81/02 combined cycle).

New IONIQ is available in two trim levels – Elite and Premium – and Hyundai’s SmartSense™ active safety suite is standard in each.
