The Next Generation Ford Transit

The award-winning Ford Transit has been extensively upgraded with refreshed styling, infotainment and Driver Assist Technology, adding to its practicality and cargo-carrying smarts. Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian Detection is now standard on every model, as well as Ford’s latest SYNC® 3 infotainment system and a host of new Driver Assist Technology (DAT). The next-gen Transit’s fresh exterior styling includes a contemporary front-end design while interior upgrades enhance its car-like features, comfort and practicality.

“The tech-loaded next-gen Transit is a real step change when it comes to giving customers more convenience and helping them be more productive on the move. These extensive upgrades – inside and out – like SYNC 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, are what customers tell us they’ve been looking for,” said Kay Hart, President and CEO, Ford Australia and New Zealand. “With AEB now standard on every Transit – and our whole commercial vehicle line-up – Australian customers can benefit from this significant technology whether they’re in a Transit, Transit Custom or Ranger.”

Every Ford Transit is equipped with the powerful 125kW/390Nm EcoBlue engine and latest SYNC® 3 infotainment, while van models feature a standard full-colour reversing camera as well as front and rear parking sensors for greater convenience.

The updated Ford Transit brings lower running costs and flexibility to Australian customers, and a level of car-like comfort that allows customers to get the most out of their day.

Transit also benefits from Ford’s five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, as well as Ford Service Benefits for private and small fleet buyers. Customer feedback shows that operating costs are a significant factor in choosing the right commercial van, which has seen Ford introduce highly competitive service pricing. For the first four years/120,000km (whichever occurs first), eligible customers will be able to service their Transit for $349 per standard A or B scheduled service. In addition, with less time off the road, thanks to 30,000km/12-month service intervals, Transit is designed to keep you and your business on the road, and on the move.

Ford Transit – what’s new?
The next-gen Ford Transit includes a suite of comprehensive Driver Assist Technology (DAT).. AEB with Pedestrian Detection, which was previously optional, is now standard, joining the Ford Transit Custom and Ford Ranger which also offer AEB as standard on every model and body-type. Other standard DAT equipment across the Transit line-up includes:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Rear-Cross Traffic Alert (not available on Cab-Chassis)
  • Lane Keeping Aid
  • Lane Departure Warning with Driver Alert
  • Traffic Sign Recognition
  • Automatic High-beam
  • Automatic headlamps
  • Automatic front windscreen wipers
  • Heated windscreen
  • Programmable MyKey
  • 230V inverter with 400W universal socket

While the updated Ford Transit brings additional equipment, it hasn’t been left behind in the style stakes. The exterior has been given a significant upgrade, with a more prominent three-bar grille, new headlamps and front bumper. While providing a fresh, contemporary look, Transit’s cargo capacity and capability hasn’t been compromised.

Inside, Transit benefits from a new dash that includes updated instruments, new control panels as well as a full-colour SYNC 3 touchscreen. Replacing the previous 6.5-inch display, the new screen is a prominent, easy to read 8.0-inch colour unit. Transit drivers can also keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road by using SYNC 3’s voice-activated features, including optional voice-activated sat-nav as well as standard Apple CarPlayi and Android Auto smartphone compatibility.

In addition, a new seat design aids comfort and support across the line-up, while a full-colour rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, as well as front fog-lamps are standard on van models.

Transit: Tech under the bonnet, and in the cabin
Transit’s advanced new-generation powertrain is now Euro 6.2 compliant and standard across the range. Delivering 125kW and 390Nm of torque, it features high pressure direct fuel injection, an advanced aluminium cylinder head, high performance variable geometry turbo as well as auto stop-start for maximum efficiency and lower running costs.

Transit Commercial Range: Delivering where it counts
In addition to changes for the spacious, versatile Transit, the urban-friendly Transit Custom has seen sales increase significantly since the introduction of the new powertrain and automatic availability in 2017. This year, Transit Custom has seen a facelift in addition to the introduction of key technology including AEB, as well as an expansion of SYNC® 3 availability. The Transit Custom line-up has also been expanded to include Double-cab in Van (DCiV) models, with the addition of the new Transit Custom Sport including Transit Custom Sport DCiV.
